What actually moves the price
Material choice
The biggest lever — loose gravel and tarmac sit at one end, granite cobbles and porcelain at the other.
Patio size
Larger areas usually bring the per-m² rate down slightly, since setup costs spread further.
Access & cartage
Materials carted through a house or a narrow side entrance cost more to deliver.
Ground & base prep
Poor ground, drainage work, or a deeper sub-base all add labour and material.
Pattern complexity
Crazy paving, imprinted patterns and bespoke cladding all take more time to lay than a simple grid.
